Texas Electricity Refer-a-Friend Programs

By the TexasPowerCost Editorial Team — independent Texas electricity analysis · Last reviewed October 18, 2026 · how we analyze plans

Several Texas electricity providers pay a one-time bill credit — usually $25 to $100 — when an existing customer refers a new one, and both sides get the credit. Here's who offers it right now and the fine print that decides whether you actually get paid.

Official programs only — no shared codes. Amounts and terms change often; confirm on each provider's page before relying on them. Last verified: October 1, 2026.

Pick the cheapest plan first — then the referral

A $50 credit is real money, but spread over a year it's only about $4/month. A plan that's just 1¢/kWh cheaper at a typical 1,200 kWh saves you about $12/month — three times as much, every month. So find the plan that's genuinely cheapest at your real usage first, then use a referral link if that provider happens to offer one. Don't let a one-time bonus steer you onto a pricier plan.

How Texas electricity referrals work

Nearly every program follows the same pattern. As an existing customer you log into your provider's account portal, where you'll find a personal referral link or ID. Your friend has to use that link to enroll — and on a qualifying plan, which for most providers means a fixed or term contract, not a month-to-month plan. After the new account has roughly 10 days of active service, both of you receive the bill credit, usually within one to two billing cycles.

Common conditions worth checking before you count on the credit:

  • The friend must be a brand-new customer — not a current or recently-pending account.
  • Most credits require a term or fixed plan; month-to-month sign-ups often don't qualify.
  • Credits are applied to a bill, not paid in cash, and can expire if the account closes early.
  • Amounts frequently change with the current promotion — the number on the provider's page wins.

Why we don't host referral codes

You'll find "monthly referral code" threads on Reddit and coupon sites where strangers paste their codes for anyone to grab. We deliberately don't host those: most providers' terms restrict referrals to people you actually know and disqualify codes shared publicly on forum or coupon sites, so a code grabbed from a stranger often pays no one — and it can put the referrer's own credit at risk. Every link here goes straight to the provider's own official program, so you generate your own valid referral link the way the terms intend.

Find your real cheapest plan first

We rank every plan in your ZIP by what it actually costs at your usage — referral bonus or not.
