Down to two or three finalists? AI is a great second pair of eyes for a side-by-side — provided you give it the two things it needs: both real Electricity Facts Labels and your actual usage. Skip either and its "cheaper plan" verdict is meaningless.
The one mistake: asking "which is cheaper?" without giving your usage. The cheaper plan changes with how much you use — a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 700 or 2,000. Always give the AI your real kWh.
The Workflow
- Gather both real EFLs. Get the Electricity Facts Label for each plan you're weighing — from the plan page, Power to Choose, or the provider.
- Give the AI your real usage. Tell it your typical summer and winter kWh. This is the input that decides which plan actually wins.
- Ask for a side-by-side at your usage. Have it compare effective rate, bill-credit behavior, base charges, term and ETF — and say where each plan wins if your usage shifts.
- Verify against the EFLs. Check the winning figures against both labels before deciding; the EFL is the binding document.

Common Questions
Can AI compare two electricity plans for me?
Yes, well — if you give it both plans' real Electricity Facts Labels and your actual monthly usage. With those, ChatGPT or Gemini can lay out a clear side-by-side: the effective rate at your usage, where each plan's bill credit helps or hurts, the base charges, and the early-termination fees. Without your usage, any "this one is cheaper" verdict is a guess, because the cheaper plan changes with how much you use.
Why does my usage change which plan is cheaper?
Because Texas plans are priced at three EFL points (500, 1,000 and 2,000 kWh) and many hang a bill credit on hitting exactly 1,000 kWh. A plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose badly at 700 or 2,000. So the only meaningful comparison is at your real usage — which is exactly the number people forget to give the AI.
Is there a faster way than pasting two EFLs into ChatGPT?
Yes. This site's comparison tool ranks every plan in your ZIP at your real usage automatically, and its AI Comparison feature builds the side-by-side prompt for you from the plans' real data. Use that for speed and accuracy, and paste EFLs into a general AI when you want an independent second read.
